The Rise of The BloggerShop

29.12.12

There are 59, 289, 644 wordpress sites in the world, the popular blogging platform is a host not only for fashion bloggers but burgeoning e-commerce companies and is in fact where MYFLASHTRASH.COM started in 2008.  Flash forward to 2012 and a clear shift is emerging between new bloggers and established bloggers the latter of which have built loyal fanbases and continue to drive traffic (more than magazines) to online retailers. The logical step forward is for them to open a shop. Converting readers into customers, and their blog into a brand that functions not only through collaborations ( e.g. Man Repeller Dannijo Range below) but through stand alone products such as Peony Lim’s smocks (below)

At Tedx in Orange County earlier this year one alliteration stood out on repeat; The ‘Maker Movement’ is here spearheaded by Etsy and Pintrest DIY posts, there is equal opportunity now for bloggers that hand make and sell, and those who whole sale buy and brand a product (e.g. RduJour’s Store below)

Which blogger would you like to have a store and would you rather shop there than a high street multiple?  Comment Below.

ICAP Charity Trading Day 2012

13.12.12

I had a lot of fun supporting Blue Marine Foundation at the ICAP Charity Trading day the other week! Francis Boulle (Above) and Fredrik Ferrier joined me on the trading floor, to sell and buy and cause general havoc in the bank’s London HQ.  We totally missed the memo on fancy dress though as all the staff dressed up in some serious punk/ hippie/ superhero gear, I opted for more of what I like to think was a female CEO, boss vibe a la Lucy Liu!!! Ccreamy silk shirt and, slit knee length tweed pencil skirt from one of my favourite London Store’s-  Joseph  SHOP BELOW

Tech Thoughts

1.  Love this Instagram Parody  Video

 2) Are we always going to be dependant on Google for every search?

Localised and content specific Search Engines are making their rise, will Google follow and create spin offs? Google-Fash Search Google-Jewel? Google-DIY?  Michael “Bing” Yingling is a big Calvin and Hobbes fan, so much so that he has built his very own Calvin and Hobbes Search Engine. Would you use a content specific search engine?

 3) Edward Norton’s Crowdfunding Platform – Crowd Rise is re-branding charity

‘There’s no reason that humor should exist everywhere except philanthropy. I think people like our voice because it’s authentic. We believe giving should be easy and fun. People like engaging with something that is real, not some generic text. Also, the incentives to donate can be really silly and nonsensical. We’ve found the more off the wall the incentives, the higher the engagement. It’s more interesting to email your friends and say, “donate $25 to my fundraiser and you’ll be signed up to win a bag of combs,” than it is to tell them they could win a gift certificate.’- Via FAST COMPANY
