REFINERY29 Beauty Feature

Amber Atherton, jewellery designer and founder of MyFlashTrash.com

What products would we find in your makeup bag?
“Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser (the light coverage is perfect for freckles), Paul and Joe blusher for peachy cheeks, a Vintage Cosmetic Company Eye Lash Curler, Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant teamed with Elizabeth Arden Prevage moisturiser. I also love Bobbi Brown eyeliner, Chanel’s red lipstick, NARS bronzer in Laguna, MAC Lipglass in Fulfilled (it tastes like cookies!), Coqui Coqui fragrance, Benefit’s Bum Deal body scrub, and Bliss Body Butter. Kerastase hair products go with me everywhere and I always pick up Bourjois mascara at Boots every month.”

What’s your beauty MO?
“I like to keep my look natural so people can focus on my jewellery.”

How do you glam it up?
“I always attempt to do elaborate updos with plaits and pins and hairspray, but fail miserably at so I’ll probably just do a high ponytail and a mulberry red lip!”

Are there any beauty tricks you swear by?
“Put oil on your hair the next time you’re in the sauna to revive dry hair. If you have an important event don’t wear mascara the day before so your lashes are in better condition. And my grandmother used to stain her lips with beetroot. It gives you a very natural red lip.”
What are your go-to beauty destinations in London?
“Daniel Mikhael has a wonderful art-deco salon by Hyde Park that has such a lovely atmosphere. I also love Aveda’s salon and my friend Teresa Tarmey’s salon on Redchurch Street, which is like a chic little loft for everything from massages to laser hair removal. I like to shop at Liberty, House of Fraser, and Space NK, although to be honest I buy most of my beauty products in a rush at the airport!”

Who are your own personal beauty inspirations?
“I really admire friends like Greta Bellamacina, Edie Campbell, and Tallulah Harlech. They wear little to no makeup and just exude confidence!”

ICAP Charity Trading Day 2012

13.12.12

I had a lot of fun supporting Blue Marine Foundation at the ICAP Charity Trading day the other week! Francis Boulle (Above) and Fredrik Ferrier joined me on the trading floor, to sell and buy and cause general havoc in the bank’s London HQ.  We totally missed the memo on fancy dress though as all the staff dressed up in some serious punk/ hippie/ superhero gear, I opted for more of what I like to think was a female CEO, boss vibe a la Lucy Liu!!! Ccreamy silk shirt and, slit knee length tweed pencil skirt from one of my favourite London Store’s-  Joseph  SHOP BELOW

Imagine a women’s only private members club. A decadent, serene 3 floor maison of extravagant beauty and thought. A place for indulgence of the senses, a room to think and a powerful crowd to engage with. Welcome to The Miu Miu London. Opened for 3 days at the Cafe Royale, featuring a shop, screening room, restaurant and bar, each room a luxurious canvas for the art of conversation.   I spent 2 wonderfully sumptuous afternoons there savouring lobster rolls and martini royales, contemplating ideas and ventures, catching up with old friends and making feisty new ones! Such a treat.

‘If that sounds fearsomely high-minded, slightly puzzling and cripplingly cool, it’s because that’s precisely what the Miu Miu woman is.’ – Harriet Walker, The Independent

Miu Miu Resort 2013

Brand member clubs are surely a growing trend, with Omega House over the Olympics and the longer standing Dunhill club, it will be interesting to see how many retail spaces begin to transform into these lifestyle maisons, where one can indulge all the senses and truley experience the brand.

Monochrome Mercy

24.11.12

Last month I headed over to California with two of my best friends Poppy Jamie and Greta Bellamacina. Between Tedx and Silicon Valley meetings, I managed to squeeze in some creativity!!!! And spontaneously booked a flight down to SF to join Jacob and Greta in filming a short for Harpers Bazaar. Our original plan was to hop on Bombay Bicycle Club’s tour bus and live out a groupie dream, but that moment soon passed and film wonder kid Jacob Perlmutter had decided on an ode to Woody Allen’s Manhattan. Watch the film above. See if you can spot me lurking in the background on my blackberry or reading WIRED.

Styling wise we used  Twenty 8 Twelve ( They have the warmest EVER winter coats check them out in store) and Hobbs Nw3 for the film as well as a few whismical pieces of jewellery from MYFLASHTRASH.COM

#TECHBITE: WILL.I.AM. RIVALS INSTAGRAM

WILL.I.AM has always been grade awesome in my books, so when it came out earlier this week that he’s created a camera accessory for Iphone that turns the camera from an 8 mega pixel snapper into a 14 mega pixel his grade went up to AWESOME +. Which is exactly what his new venture is. i.am+ will also link to an instagram like network allowing users to share their photos.

There is a lesson in this, he’s working with Apple to compete against Instagram……..

MORE MONOCHROME! last week at the DKNY Hearts for Haiti Event with Olivia Grant below. Was so interesting to talk to Donna Karen about how they are introducing more eco-friendly intiatives into the design, she was carrying a paper maiche bag! In a glossy burgundy you would never have guessed. Don’t think my DIY skills are that great to be flaunting one just yet #PVCMESS
