The Fashion East catwalk today showcased not only 3 talented designers adept creativity, but savvy commercialism as well. Claire Barrow hinted at bridal wear through her embroidery and velvet heavy collection whilst Ashley William’s playful, slogan branded designs ended with a cute foray into childrenswear. Meanwhile Ryan Lo’s collection felt like a japanese mermaid prom (one where vast quantities of candy floss were consumed) and although it was surely not aimed at the lucrative prom market, you can see his designs gaining teenage social media dedication not disimilar from henry holland on instagram, tumblr and twitter.

Noticeable were the eccentric clutches that appeared in varying forms in each designer’s collection-  from an ethnic baby born, to perspex envelopes and 90’s cuddly toys, its clear that entry level accessories provide brand’s with a backbone of support. But support in its most prevalent form comes of course from the inspiring and  charismatic Lulu Kennedy. Fashion East’s founder who each season offers three womenswear and three menswear designers the opportunity to present a catwalk collection to the international press and buyers attending London Fashion Week

Designers receive a bursary, free venue and complete catwalk show production, professional catwalk photographs and video. Designers are also given mentoring, guidance and in-house PR throughout the season from Lulu Kennedy and her team. Designers are selected by Lulu Kennedy and a panel of fashion industry experts. Successes include Richard Nicoll, Holly Fulton, Jonathan Saunders, House of Holland, Gareth Pugh, Marios Schwab, Louise Goldin, Roksanda Ilincic and Meadham Kirchhoff.

Im all about supporting new talent whether its jewellery designers over at MYFLASHTRASH.COM or Lulu’s own collaborations which you can buy online over at Lulu & Co
