Chanel and the Diamond

28.02.13

Are not the most beautiful things made to circulate? Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel asked, this brilliant short film from Chanel highlights the designers first folly with the diamond.

Whilst over at BOF – CEO Talk | Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski

‘It fits into my great-great-grandfather’s motto. He thought that diamonds were for royalty, and he wanted to create a product that felt like a diamond, but that anyone could afford. From the beginning we have been about the democratisation of luxury as well.’ READ ON

I felt like a prawn nestled in fashion mayonaise.

When you’re planning an event and one thing goes wrong you can guarantee its like a raindrop before the storm and pretty soon it is hailing down moments of PR catastrophe and you wonder why you ever decided to have a party in the first place.

First- guest list dilemmas.  ‘I’ve broken my ankle’- ***** famous model, then the sound system doesn’t work and your live act ( the amazing Syron) can’t sing, then magazines ask who’s coming and your like I DON’T KNOW BECAUSE THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE IS SO FICKLE, and then you just sit in a corner and eat skinny popcorn and telepathically convince Jennifer Lawrence to teleport herself over.

So yes, I spent the whole of Monday ( The night of our TOKYO TRIO CASIO X MYFLASHTRASH.COM launch party) glued to my phone and a cup of Starbucks-a moment of relaxation came at Daniel Mikhael’s hair salon although I was so involved with my blackberry I can’t actually physically remember being there, or when the wonderful @lilywade7 did my makeup, but I glanced briefly in the mirror in the loo and was like yeah I look smoking*** and blew a kiss to myself. One minute Sheridan & Co’s sleek space was empty then next it was so packed I felt like a prawn nestled in fashion mayonaise.

But JOY! People had arrived  and were  having fun and loving the watches! Manga portraits were drawn, Spirited Away was projected onto the wall, papz papped wildly at hot female guests and much flirting was done over at the Itsu sushi conveyor belt bar ( fuelled largely I suspect by the free flowing martini royales) come 10pm and I creeped slightly into ‘relax it’s a party mode’, before going back into boss mode with an investor chat outside.I have a penchant for discussing ROI on new software investments and our COO search then switching quickly back to discussing an un-named hip hop artist’s affair with the glorious singer Yadi and Rosie Fortescue’s new shoes. Of course the initial storm left behind a rainbow of awesome party fun. The watches are now live so why not  be the first to own your very own urban cartier- yeah its all about CASIO Check it out! See photos of Syron, Gizzi Erskine, Zoe Hardman, & more friends over at Facebook xx

Amber Atherton, jewellery designer and founder of MyFlashTrash.com

What products would we find in your makeup bag?
“Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser (the light coverage is perfect for freckles), Paul and Joe blusher for peachy cheeks, a Vintage Cosmetic Company Eye Lash Curler, Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant teamed with Elizabeth Arden Prevage moisturiser. I also love Bobbi Brown eyeliner, Chanel’s red lipstick, NARS bronzer in Laguna, MAC Lipglass in Fulfilled (it tastes like cookies!), Coqui Coqui fragrance, Benefit’s Bum Deal body scrub, and Bliss Body Butter. Kerastase hair products go with me everywhere and I always pick up Bourjois mascara at Boots every month.”

What’s your beauty MO?
“I like to keep my look natural so people can focus on my jewellery.”

How do you glam it up?
“I always attempt to do elaborate updos with plaits and pins and hairspray, but fail miserably at so I’ll probably just do a high ponytail and a mulberry red lip!”

Are there any beauty tricks you swear by?
“Put oil on your hair the next time you’re in the sauna to revive dry hair. If you have an important event don’t wear mascara the day before so your lashes are in better condition. And my grandmother used to stain her lips with beetroot. It gives you a very natural red lip.”
What are your go-to beauty destinations in London?
“Daniel Mikhael has a wonderful art-deco salon by Hyde Park that has such a lovely atmosphere. I also love Aveda’s salon and my friend Teresa Tarmey’s salon on Redchurch Street, which is like a chic little loft for everything from massages to laser hair removal. I like to shop at Liberty, House of Fraser, and Space NK, although to be honest I buy most of my beauty products in a rush at the airport!”

Who are your own personal beauty inspirations?
“I really admire friends like Greta Bellamacina, Edie Campbell, and Tallulah Harlech. They wear little to no makeup and just exude confidence!”
