A WEEKEND IN EDINBURGH

03.02.13

The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful.‘ – E.E. Cummings

I just came back from a wonderful weekend in Edinburgh. A weekend filled with delicious mussels at The Outsider, cocktails at Bar Kohl and a picnic in the highlands with a basket full of philosophy & poetry books. It’s hard when you run your own business to accept that you are allowed to switch off, yet in moments of idle thought, heated discussion, or whilst on a long walk great inspiration can be found.

Scottish Style File: I took my new ME & ZENA heart ring £15 with me whilst I bought these Willow Boots £195 Kurt Geiger I love the equestrian edge of these riding boots. A velvet blazer like this one from Diane Von Furstenberg £140  is a winter wardrobe staple + .J.W. ANDERSON Pleated Leather Gloves £195

SCOTTISH FASHION DESIGNERS: Glasgow born, Jonathan Saunders, whose S/S’13 collection (below) featured ‘plenty of lightweight knitwear, with delicious sequins applied to knit cardigans and pencil skirts’ has a brilliant way of making patterns wearable. Blending textures into clothes like with the gorgeous, weaved knit (£236 ) below.  The Outnet has an amazing discounted selection at the moment.

Holly Fulton’s refreshed take on art-deco always has me swooning. I’m hoping these 2 looks from her S/S’13 collection will miraculously appear in my wardrobe.

I felt like a prawn nestled in fashion mayonaise.

When you’re planning an event and one thing goes wrong you can guarantee its like a raindrop before the storm and pretty soon it is hailing down moments of PR catastrophe and you wonder why you ever decided to have a party in the first place.

First- guest list dilemmas.  ‘I’ve broken my ankle’- ***** famous model, then the sound system doesn’t work and your live act ( the amazing Syron) can’t sing, then magazines ask who’s coming and your like I DON’T KNOW BECAUSE THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE IS SO FICKLE, and then you just sit in a corner and eat skinny popcorn and telepathically convince Jennifer Lawrence to teleport herself over.

So yes, I spent the whole of Monday ( The night of our TOKYO TRIO CASIO X MYFLASHTRASH.COM launch party) glued to my phone and a cup of Starbucks-a moment of relaxation came at Daniel Mikhael’s hair salon although I was so involved with my blackberry I can’t actually physically remember being there, or when the wonderful @lilywade7 did my makeup, but I glanced briefly in the mirror in the loo and was like yeah I look smoking*** and blew a kiss to myself. One minute Sheridan & Co’s sleek space was empty then next it was so packed I felt like a prawn nestled in fashion mayonaise.

But JOY! People had arrived  and were  having fun and loving the watches! Manga portraits were drawn, Spirited Away was projected onto the wall, papz papped wildly at hot female guests and much flirting was done over at the Itsu sushi conveyor belt bar ( fuelled largely I suspect by the free flowing martini royales) come 10pm and I creeped slightly into ‘relax it’s a party mode’, before going back into boss mode with an investor chat outside.I have a penchant for discussing ROI on new software investments and our COO search then switching quickly back to discussing an un-named hip hop artist’s affair with the glorious singer Yadi and Rosie Fortescue’s new shoes. Of course the initial storm left behind a rainbow of awesome party fun. The watches are now live so why not  be the first to own your very own urban cartier- yeah its all about CASIO Check it out! See photos of Syron, Gizzi Erskine, Zoe Hardman, & more friends over at Facebook xx

January Detox

19.01.13

So it’s mid January…how’s everyone doing with their detox? Are you surviving Atkins, Dukan, Paleo?! Well you better be because Fashion Week is in less than 2 week so you better loose 5 pounds NOW!!! JK.

A few people have asked recently what I do to keep fit so here is my fitness lowdown! Modeling introduced me to a variety of weird quick weight loss fixes, diets and just general bizarre ways of eating, none of which I would recommend! And apart from a 3 day juice cleanse I went on once, which was more a test of willpower than weight loss, I like to stick to a simple balanced routine.

EATING: 3 balanced meals a day with fruit, coffee, nuts/protein sources in between. I save carbs for dinner.

BREAKFAST: FRUIT, YOGHURT, TEA (Raouls off Westbourne Grove does the ULTIMATE fruit and yoghurt dish)

LUNCH: TUNA SALAD (The GLAMOUR Mag girls introduced me to Bond & Brook at Fenwick on Bond St which does a great tuna salad. The Pierre Salad at Sketch on Conduit St is also delicious)

SNACKS: Im really addicted to these Bounce Balls. Skinny extra hot lattes. Tyrell’s Beetroot Crisps. FroYo, I always have a tub of YOOMOO in my freezer.

DINNER: TERIYAKI SALMON, BROWN RICE AND BROCCOLI. ( I love Japanese and Korean Food. For a casual luncheon I head to KimChee, Itsu or Eat Tokyo, for dinner SakeNoHana or my favourite- Bob Bob Ricard)

Yes carbs are the enemy etc but I mean carbs are great right? So don’t be mean and exclude them from your diet- well exclude the white bread etc but totally invite brown rice, oats, quinoa, buckwheat to join your plate party. (Otherwise your going to end up committing Carbicide)

 And Remember….

EXERCISE: I walk everywhere, often clocking up 5-6 miles a day running between my office and meetings, but I always try and exercise for at least 45 minutes 4 times a week. A trainer once told me to make sure your body doesn’t get stuck in a routine, so where I used to just hit the cross trainer 4 times a week I now mix it up with swimming and spin classes. I work out in Nike Gear their trainers are the best. Click to Shop Nike!
